PPengguna TetamuI am a book lover myself, and came to stay here for 2 nights in March a week before Easter, mainly for the library theme and book selection. The hotel itself, the book lounge, and the book libraries on each floor was all very very good. However, upon my checking in, it was obvious that the male receptionist on the left pay more attention to Caucasian guests rather than me (an Asian solo female traveller). I had the impression they just wanted to get rid of me asap, and then served the Caucasian guests behind me.
During the whole of my check in process, no one mentioned anything about the special libraries on each floor, no one told me about the free beverages offered “at the far end corner for the reception desk”, and definitely no one mentioned anything about he QRcode library tour!!! I stayed for two nights and it was only after the first night (when I read the books inside my room that I knew of ANY of the services I mentioned above). Of course one may say I could read all those on the signage’s provided in the property. But then…
Upon walking into the reception desk the next day, I did hear the same male receptionist explained in great detail (everything I mentioned above)in English to other Caucasian guests.
I like the library premise of the property, the books selections were great, exhibition on the first floor was quite nice, however, I am not sure if I would stay for a second time, knowing how they treated solo female Asian guest whom they assumed was not civilised enough (that was my impression) to deserve a thorough introduction about this lovely bookish hotel from them. Quite disappointed to be frank, especially knowing how much history this hotel has included!!

PPengguna TetamuThe hotel is ideally located close to Shinjuku Train Station, but far away enough not to be caught up in the hustle and bustle of the commuter traffic. Another station, Yoyogi station, is a better station to catch the local trains/subways as it is smaller and less crowded. The hotel is located close to shopping and eating that you don't need to walk very far to satisfy any craving. From 7-11 to high end dining, everything is close by. There are restaurants and even a Shake Shack (got our desserts from here several times) inside the building and department stores just across the bridge that crosses the railway tracks. The hotel actually starts on the 20th floor, so you are high enough that the noise from the railway doesn't bother you. Since you are so close to the train station, you don't have to lug your baggage too far from the train station (if that's how you came into town). Service from the staff was very good and was as expected from a higher end hotel. The room was on the large side for Japanese hotel rooms. We had a king size bed and space to walk around even with 2 suitcases and 2 carry-ons taking up floor space. The elevators were quick and silent with a view overlooking the promenade. Filtered water is provided next to the elevators, which came in very handy since we filled our refillable battles starting out each day of sightseeing. A refrigerator was provided as was a safe. Towels were changed on demand and sheets were changed every 3 days or on demand. The bathroom was small but not the smallest we experienced, the shower/tub was great with a handheld sprayer available. The toilet was the typical bidet/heated seat setup that all hotels seem to provide. Everything was clean and neat with the typical (for Japanese luxury hotels) compliment of items - toothbrushes, toothpaste, razor, shower cap, skin lotion, soap, shampoo, etc. Unfortunately, we were on the go most of the time and didn't experience any of the hotel restaurants, but they looked high end and we probably wouldn't have eaten at them since we didn't really pack any nice clothes that would have fit into the clientele. Overall, a comfy place to stay in a great location. I would definitely stay here again.

PpornphunFor us, the location was the best. Close to Shinjuku train station as we had a 8am train ride the next morning. Minutes from restaurant’s street and malls but in the quiet part of Shinjuku down a side road. We had a corner room that was cozy and comfy for the three of us. If I needed to be in this area again, I would definitely come back.

Kali ini mengaturkan kami ke menara selatan, walaupun dikatakan telah dinaik taraf, bilik hotel tidak sebaru menara Utama, namun, kerana ia tidak di tingkat eksekutif, tandas tidak sama dengan menara utama yang diubah suai. Saiz bilik masih sangat lapang dan cukup besar untuk beg besar kami dibuka. Ia kemas dan bersih.
Sarapan yang ditawarkan di tingkat 2 yang mempunyai banyak pilihan. Makanan semuanya sedap dan segar! Harga hotel naik kerana bunga sakura, namun, ia masih lokasi terbaik dan berjalan kaki ke Taman Negara Shinjuku Gyoen!

Meja penyambut tetamu dan sarapan kedua-duanya berada di tingkat tiga Walaupun sarapan pagi tidak sepelbagai hotel domestik, ia sangat Jepun dan menang dengan kualiti. Kali ini saya tinggal di bilik 1108. Kepala katil dekat dengan tingkap bilik itu menghadap ke kereta bawah tanah, jadi saya boleh mendengar dengan jelas bunyi landasan kereta api ketika tidur disyorkan untuk tinggal di bilik di baris 08, 09 dan 10. Kawasan sekitar sangat mudah untuk makan dan membeli-belah Tidak ramai orang Cina di hotel, tetapi kebanyakannya penduduk tempatan dan warga asing, jadi hampir tidak ada bunyi semasa sarapan.

It’s not a luxury hotel, but it does a great job of providing a comfortable stay with thoughtful touches.
Location – Perfect for Travelers
One of the best things about this hotel is its location. Just a short walk from Ueno Station, it offers easy access to the JR Yamanote Line, the Keisei Skyliner (for Narita Airport), and multiple metro lines, making it an excellent choice for those who plan to explore different parts of Tokyo. Additionally, the Ameya-Yokocho (Ameyoko) Market is just around the corner, where you’ll find everything from fresh seafood and street food to clothing and souvenirs. It’s a lively area that adds to the appeal of staying in Ueno.
Room & Facilities – Compact but Functional
As expected, the rooms are small, which is pretty standard in Tokyo, but they are well-designed with everything you need. The bed was comfortable, and the room included basic amenities like a TV, a small desk, and a fridge. Storage space is limited, but for a short stay, it was manageable. The bathroom was also compact, though the onsen (public bath) on-site makes up for it.
Onsen – A Small but Relaxing Bath
One of the highlights of staying at Dormy Inn hotels is their public bath (onsen), and this location has one, albeit on the smaller side. It’s not the biggest or most luxurious onsen, but it’s a nice way to unwind after a long day of walking around Tokyo. The water temperature was just right, and while the space was limited, it wasn’t overly crowded when I visited.
Freebies & Unique Perks
Dormy Inn is known for offering small but unique perks to its guests. This location provides free popsicles and yogurt drinks, which is a nice touch. However, they are only available during specific hours, so if you’re out sightseeing all day, you might miss out on them. They also supposedly offer free late-night soba, a Dormy Inn signature, but I never actually saw it happen and didn’t feel like asking about it. Maybe I just missed the time window. Housekeeping – No Room Cleaning, Just Fresh Towels
One thing to note is that Dormy Inn follows a no-daily-cleaning policy. Instead of a full room service, they simply drop off fresh towels outside your door. This is fine if you’re staying just a few days, but if you prefer daily room cleaning, you might find it lacking.

The staff at check-in were friendly and efficient, which I appreciated. They handled everything quickly and provided all the necessary information without any issues. While I didn’t interact with them much after check-in, the overall service felt professional and welcoming.
Final Thoughts – A Solid Stay for Practical Travelers
Overall, Dormy Inn Ueno Tokyo is a great choice if you’re looking for a convenient, budget-friendly, and functional stay in Tokyo. The location is excellent, the onsen is a nice touch, and the small perks like free drinks and late-night snacks add to the experience. Just keep in mind that the rooms are small, there’s no daily cleaning, and some of the free amenities have limited availability. If you’re okay with that, it’s a great place to stay in Ueno!

CCancanOverall a good hotel for short stay.. Comes with all basic amenities like pyjamas, water machine, free drinks machine, breakfast, Onsen etc... The only downside is the size of the room.. Barely had space to maneuver or open luggage.. Not too far from Ikebukuro station but not exactly near either after you had a long day.. Around 10minutes walk depending on speed. Many eateries nearby.

RRtz2nd time staying in this hotel. Location is so convenient as it is right in front of the exit for Higashi-Ginza station (direct line going to Haneda airport). Rooms are also clean and comfortable. The hotel's onsen are also perfect for a late night soak after a long day of exploring.

PPengguna TetamuIt’s our first time in Tokyo. My family and I stayed in standard double bedrooms which have windows. We are really impressed with the hotel’s service. They have luggage deposit service for free. You can deposit your luggage before you check in and after you check out. They adjusted the direction of the escalator for us. The overall of rooms’ size and hotel is quite small, but it doesn’t bother that much. The location is so great that you can visit many famous shops like Uniqlo, Donki, GU near the place. And, it’s near a market and the train station including KS line. The restaurants near here are nice. The food tasted so delicious, even if we just randomly chose to eat. However, Ueno has a lot of clubs, so at night there’re several girls standing alongside the street with their guards. It may seem dangerous for someone.

Ooki explorerThis is a good location especially if you’re going to Disneyland. There are 3 train stations around the hotel within 5min walk. Its very convenient and spacious. Would stay there again. It is also close to Haneda airport. I don’t like to stay in the metropolitan area so this is a perfect location for us. They have lockers for early arrivals and also has a McDonalds attach to the hotel with convenient store. We also got a good view!!!
